Mercy Steele (October 8, 1727 - October 5, 1794) was a resident of West Hartford, Connecticut and the mother of lexicographer, Noah Webster.

Steele was born on October 8, 1727 in West Hartford, Connecticut as the daughter of Eliphalet Steele and Catherine Marshfield. She grew up in the area and married in 1749. Her husband built a house at 227 South Main Street in West Hartford, which later became known as the Noah Webster house. She had several children, spending long hours teaching them spelling, mathematics, and music in the home.

Steele died in West Hartford, Connecticut on October 5, 1794. She was buried in the old cemetery in West Hartford.
